No part-specific design process is documented. The Custom Electronics subsystem design process applies: 1. Collect the sensor list from every subteam, agree location and type with the designer who needs the data. 2. Split sensors between ECU and dash based on which parameters are engine-critical. 3. Size the charging system and validate it. A custom current measurement board (50 A bidirectional sensing chip, inline on the rectifier-to-PDM wire) measured what the rectifier actually puts back. 4. Build the datalogging parameter list with rates, then check CAN bus load. 5. Validate on a mock endurance: average battery voltage 13.4 V, minimum 12.1 V excluding cranking on CR26I.
From the CR22 electrical write-up: - The sensor list gates everything else. Harness design cannot start until it is final, which is why it was closed out in June 2022 before the first wiring diagram iteration. - Lead times. Hall effect sensors ran three weeks on CR22, and the BMRSWired order that the harness depends on ran two months, with two weeks to three months being the normal range. The harness could not be started until the wire arrived, because using old wire was rejected on reliability grounds. - Which datalogger a sensor is wired to is a design decision made per sensor, not a default, and it is constrained by what the ECU needs to see for engine control. - Sensor choice is not the Electrical subteam's alone. It requires the requesting designer's input on position and type.

From the CR22 electrical write-up: - Sensor quality became a deliberate choice on CR22. Previous cars did not consider it much; CR22 replaced almost every sensor and moved to parts intended for motorsport use, the named example being fuel and oil pressure going from the Honeywell PX3AN2BS100PAAAX to the RaceGrade M APT G2 DTM 150G. - The 2023 to 2024 season added sensors rather than replacing them: oil cooler temperature in and out sensor harnesses were built in November 2023, with M1 Build modified to configure them.
