Purpose

The CR26E vehicle control unit, replacing the ECU on the electric car.

Function

Interfaces the driver's pedal request, the BMS and the DTI HV-550 inverter, and translates pedal position into a torque request. Calibration for this interface did not exist at the time of the CR26E scope review.

Design Process

The CR25 GEVCU one-pager records the selection reasoning. The GEVCU is an open source vehicle control unit for electric cars, more powerful than alternatives such as Ecotron's and focused on CAN bus. Communication is serial with no GUI, all input entered on a command line, though the unit provides a menu of commands, connected over USB, Bluetooth or WiFi. It is programmable in C++ using the Arduino IDE, but programming is not required since everything can be configured through the serial port. It has 8 analog inputs, 12 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs, fewer than alternatives, offset by three CAN buses that can control modules instead. The stated advantage of having no GUI is that the team never has to deal with outdated software. $975 plus shipping.

Analysis

Validation: put the GEVCU on the test bench connected to various components and modify the variables and modules.
