Restrain the driver in the seat under acceleration, cornering, braking and impact.
A 6-point harness providing shoulder, lap and anti-submarine restraint, with adjustable straps and anti-slip buckles.
No part-specific design process is documented. The Ergonomics subsystem design process applies: 1. Take driver body measurements and place them against the ergonomics study ranges. 2. Mold the seat insert to the driver in the car with expanding foam, then hand post-process and cover. 3. Set headrest and harness mounting to the rules and to the driver's shoulder height. 4. Run a simulator or on-track endurance stint and measure fatigue with EMG. 5. Iterate the insert shape at the identified pressure and support points.
Rules define the harness specification, the mounting geometry and the expiry date. Belt routing must clear the seat insert and must release fast enough for the 5 second egress requirement.
Purchased FIA/SFI rated harness.
CR22 Issue Log, 2023-08-30, Chassis. The seatbelts were not legal because they were mounted too close together. The tabs were cut off and rewelded in a new location. CR22 Issue Log, 2023-10-08, Chassis. The seatbelt tabs were illegal because the tearout distance had been measured incorrectly. The tabs were cut off and larger ones meeting the rules were rewelded.
