Distribute fuel at regulated pressure to all four injectors and provide the mounting point for the fuel pressure and temperature sensor.
A milled aluminium rail with an inlet from the fuel pump and a return to the regulator, carrying the injectors and the Bosch PST-F 1 combined pressure and temperature sensor, with 1/8 in NPT plugs closing the unused ports.
A custom rail was chosen over a modified OEM rail. The OEM route costs 1 hour of manufacturing and no money but locks the team into the stock primary injectors; the custom rail costs an estimated 16 hours and the price of stock, but allows any choice of injector. Injector port size is matched to the selected injectors.
IC.6.1.2: unmodified OEM rails are acceptable regardless of material, but non-OEM rails made from plastic, carbon fibre or rapid prototyping flammable materials are prohibited. The rail must be securely attached to the manifold, block or head with brackets and mechanical fasteners; hose clamps, plastic ties and safety wire do not meet the requirement. Threaded fasteners securing the rail are Critical Fasteners under T.8.2.
Milled from 6063 T-5 extrusion with a 0.5 in centre bore, then black anodised to protect the surface appearance and prevent thread wear over time. From the design reports and one-pagers: Machined on the CNC mill (2 hr), with the injectors fitted to the rail during machining to confirm fitment, then the fittings welded on (2 hr). Mounts are waterjet (30 min), bent (30 min) and welded to fit with the system assembled (1 hr).
