Oil Pump Pickup Tube

Subteam: PowertrainSubsystem: LubricationAssembly: Lubrication AssemblyCars: CR22, CR25, CR26I

Purpose

Draw oil from the bottom of the pan into the oil pump.

Function

A tube with a screened inlet sitting in the sump. Its aspect ratio determines how resistant it is to uncovering under lateral acceleration.

Design Process

Revised aspect ratio increases resistance to oil starvation under lateral acceleration. Designed to be easy to manufacture, with optimised geometry to prevent oil starvation.

Manufacturing Process

Cut to length, then welded or bonded to its end inserts.

Full Material List

6061 aluminium. Seals with the OE pickup tube gasket, retained by the bottom of the oil pan. From the cost report drawings and CAD: From the cost report drawings: 6061 Aluminum (Oil Pump Pickup).
