The PM100DX was chosen first for its voltage and current compatibility with the 228 and its CAN accessibility, then discontinued. The manufacturer recommended the CM200DX, which is lighter, more powerful and higher voltage. The problem with both is that Cascadia does not support the EMRAX custom motor windings, which is what moved the team to the DTI HV-550. The DTI's higher power output and wider input voltage range also prevent damage to the controller and the pack and reduce CAN bus noise from overvoltage transients and spikes.
EV.5.2 requires the tractive system motor be connected to the accumulator through a motor controller, with no direct connections.
Fault Vault, 2026-03-01, CR26E, Fundamental System Understanding, Complete Failure. Noise issues with the HV power supply produced voltage spikes in the encoder signal severe enough that the motor would not spin at all when the inverter was powered from the HV supply. Fixed by adding a grounding strap from the power supply to the inverter ground point and the motor; the requirement is a low impedance path to deal with the high frequency noise. This is the concrete failure behind the star grounding and EMI-shielded cable decisions.
