Charging

Subteam: EV Power SystemsSubsystem: Charging

Purpose

To recharge the accumulator safely between sessions, with a shutdown circuit that prevents the car from being energised while connected.

Function

An Elcon UHF 3.3 kW high voltage charger connected to the accumulator through a charging shutdown circuit, with the charging interlock tied into the accumulator low voltage safety chain so the tractive system cannot be enabled while charging.

Design Philosophies and Processes

The charger was purchased alongside the cells specifically so battery pack development could continue without draining the cells and damaging them. Charging capability is a prerequisite for pack commissioning, not an afterthought. NOT COMPLETE. No design documentation for the charging system was found in CrimsonStorage or Box beyond the purchase justification and the interlock requirement. The charger hardware is listed in the CRE25 general purchasing list; no design review or validation document exists yet.

Isolated Goals

- Charge the pack between sessions within the time available. - Interlock so the vehicle cannot be enabled while connected. - Meet the EV ruleset requirements for charging.

Still to document

Nothing in CrimsonStorage covers these yet.
