EV Power Systems

Subteam: EV Power SystemsCars: CR26E

Purpose

To store, protect, monitor and deliver the electrical energy that drives CR26E, the team's first electric vehicle. EV Power Systems owns the accumulator and its structure, the high voltage battery and its management system, the tractive system from contactors through inverter to motor, the low voltage electronics inside the accumulator, charging, and EV calibration. Everything in this subteam is written against the FSAE EV ruleset first and performance second, because a car that cannot pass electrical scrutineering does not score.

Universal Goals

- Get the car through electrical technical inspection. Rules compliance is the first-order goal for a first-year EV program. - Store enough energy to complete endurance without carrying weight that is never used. Achieve the energy target with as few cells as possible. - Increase tractive system reliability by reducing electrical noise, improving contactor state feedback, and isolating failure points. - Design load-bearing structures that safely support the high voltage battery: every accumulator mount must withstand 15 kN in any direction, and segment structure must retain the cells under 40 g fore/aft/lateral and 20 g vertical. - Package for serviceability first, then tune for stiffness and mass. - Give the driver a smooth, confident torque response and reduce energy losses through calibration.
