To produce, control, cool, lubricate, fuel and transmit the power that moves the car. On the IC cars Powertrain owns the 2008 Yamaha YZF-R6 engine and everything attached to it: intake and exhaust manifolds, fuel system, lubrication, the cooling loop's heat rejection hardware, the pneumatic shifting system, the drivetrain from front sprocket to wheel, and the ECU calibration. On CR26E the drivetrain scope carries over to the electric car.
- Target peak engine performance between 10,000 and 14,000 rpm while keeping the car drivable everywhere else. Histograms of 2025 Autocross and Endurance show the car spends most of its time in that band with throttle above 80%. - Keep ancillary systems maintaining engine health under all testing and competition conditions. Cooling and lubrication exist to let the engine finish endurance, not to look good on a dyno pull. - Use the AC motor engine test stand to develop calibration for efficiency and drivability rather than tuning on the car. - Improve system models and testing tools. GT Suite engine model rebuilt from the ground up on measured port geometry, cam lift and valve spring data. - Maintain powertrain system weight from year to year while adding capability. CR26I cut 13 lb from cooling and 8.94 lb from exhaust. - Validate every selection with data. Fuel choice, differential choice, tripod insert material, muffler geometry and radiator angle were all settled by test rather than by preference.
